What is a Cornea?

The cornea is the clear, dome-shaped layer with a thickness of 0.5 mm that covers the eye. Its functions are to prevent pathogens from entering the eye, to refract light, and to let light pass through the eye. If the cornea is damaged through disease or injury, light will not be able to pass through, causing a loss of vision.
